Ultimate Achievement in Life Sciences Scholarship Honoring Dr. Joseph W. Vanable, Professor Emeritus

04-25-2018

The Department of Biological Sciences is excited to announce that a Purdue Biological Sciences Alumnus has established an endowment in honor of Dr. Joseph W. Vanable.  Through a $400,000 bequest, the donor, in working with the Department, has established the Ultimate Achievement in Life Sciences Scholarship Honoring Dr. Joseph W. Vanable, Professor Emeritus.  The scholarship will be directed towards undergraduate support, and will be awarded to junior and/or senior students enrolled in the University’s Department of Biological Sciences who have recently made significant academic progress.  The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility criteria and continues to improve his/her cumulative grade point average.

Dr. Joseph Vanable is a Professor Emeritus.  Professor Vanable was the consummate educator who served as mentor for countless students as they came through our program.  He has been a liaison with the satellite campuses, convener of the teaching assistants committee, and was an Associate Head for three years.  Despite his retirement, Professor Vanable continues to help the Department by serving as an Ombud, offering informal and confidential assistance to all employees in the Department.

We cannot thank our alumnus enough for the wonderful support in making this such a special day for our Department.  We are thrilled that a new scholarship will help us in rewarding our undergraduate students who have committed to better themselves throughout their time on campus.
