Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences
What an exciting time to be part of the Life Sciences at Purdue. Biological Sciences leads the way, playing a key role in driving discoveries to the forefront, where new technologies allow us to explore biology in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago. With a Purdue major strategic investment in “One Health”, our researchers take on some of the world’s greatest challenges, expanding knowledge of animal, human and environmental well-being. We are developing solutions to understand and treat genetic disease, contribute to personalized medicine, solve the molecular structures of today’s toughest pathogens, unravel how the brain functions, and understand the ecosystems that keep our planet healthy. These groundbreaking discoveries are at the core of our research and teaching missions.
Research and teaching at Purdue Biological Sciences is organized into six focus areas that cover the breadth of biology:
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Disease
- Neuroscience and Physiology
- Structural and Computational Biology & Biophysics
- Biology Education
We offer access to breakthrough technologies, both for our students and researchers and invite you to take a look inside the Chaney-Hale Hall of Science, the Bindley Bioscience Center or our pioneering Cryo-Electron Microscopy facility. Our faculty are leading the charge in multiple Purdue Discovery Park Institutes, advancing our understanding of aging, neurodegeneration, infection, inflammation, cancer, and more in the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience (PIIN), Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Disease (PI4D), and the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research (PICR).
It truly is an incredible time to be part of Purdue Biological Sciences, and we welcome you to explore our world-renowned research programs, award-winning faculty, and the many opportunities we offer for learning and discovery.
I invite you to dive into our website, come visit us, and learn more about how we’re pushing the boundaries of biology every day.
