United Way Campaign Kick Off
09-01-2016
Purdue's 2016 United Way campaign begins today (Sept. 1) with the goal of raising $760,000 for local agencies in need. The campaign ends Nov. 16.
The Purdue United Way Campaign's theme this year is "We're all United Way people." Pam Horne, vice provost for enrollment management, is this year's campaign chair, and Willie Reed, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, is the vice chair.
"My excitement today as we kick off this year's campaign is palpable," Horne says. "I'm looking forward to seeing how other members of our Purdue family embrace this much-needed community campaign. Our history of giving to the United Way of Greater Lafayette is impressive, and I expect 2016 to carry on that tradition. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated and truly make a positive difference in the lives of those in need in our area."
The video featured on the Purdue United Way website — www.purdue.edu/unitedway — explores the importance of this campaign through firsthand perspectives. Employees and retirees can find additional campaign information and make their donations via the website.
New this year is the incorporation of the ePledgesystem to streamline the campaign and make the experience more efficient, effective and user-friendly. As in years past, donors have the ability to donate an unrestricted gift to the United Way of Greater Lafayette or can choose a specific agency for their donations. Gifts can be made in various ways, including payroll deduction or a one-time donation. For credit card transactions, the United Way of Greater Lafayette contracts with CyberSource, a trusted name in e-commerce meeting industry security standards.
A matching grant funded by the Lilly Endowment is available. By making a new gift or by increasing a gift of $100 or more, United Way will use the grant to match the amount dollar for dollar.
More information can be found on the Purdue United Way website, including information on incentives for donating. Questions about the campaign can be directed to Becky Hershey, Purdue United Way director, at unitedway@purdue.edu or 49-49240.
