Logan Ganzen awarded CTSI Predoctoral Investigator Award in Translational Research
06-01-2016
Logan Ganzen, a graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences, has been awarded a CTSI Predoctoral Investigator Award in Translational Research. This program seeks applicants who are interested in translating their research findings to clinical applications. It is extremely competitive this year, with 53 applications. Logan conducts his research with Professor Yuk Fai Leung. In Logan's CTSI program, they team up with Professor Motokazu Tsujikawa, M.D. Ph.D., Endowed Chair Professor in the Department of Visual Regenerative Medicine at the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine. This interdisciplinary team will seek better ways to model human night blindness in zebrafish, and to use the resulting fish model to screen new drugs for this blinding eye disease. In addition to research support, the CTSI program will give Logan an opportunity to attend a 2017 national translational science meeting. He will also participate in a number of CTSI translational training activities, including the CTSI Annual Meeting, and a course on Tools and Techniques in Translational Research. When Logan attends an international eye conference, he will visit his co-mentor Dr. Tsujikawa, and experience their research on clinical, zebrafish and translational medicine at Osaka University School of Medicine.
