11-04-2010
October the 8th, Sam Postlethwait drove to Nashville, TN to participate in the annual meeting of The International Society For Teaching and Learning. This is an organization that originated at Purdue University in the Fall of 1970. It was created as a result of the learning system called Audio Tutorial that Sam developed in the '60s. During the 60's, so many visitors came to Purdue to learn about the AT the system that in 1968 visitors were limited to a specific date in October. There were 475 visitors from all over U.S. and some foreign countries at the first meeting and at a similar conference set for 1969, there were 745 visitors in attendance. That year the conference participants urged that it become a yearly meeting. An organization was established under the name of The International Congress for Audio Tutorial Instruction. A few years later the name was changed as several other innovative teaching systems from other sources joined and it currently operates under the name International Society for Teaching and Learning. This year, on it's 40th anniversary, Sam was invited to present a keynote presentation and received a Founders award "for his vision, innovation and leadership in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning".
